Four years ago the now 20-year-old Gabby Douglas was making Olympic history as the first American gymnast to win gold in both the individual all-around and team competitions when the internet exploded with hateful comments referring to her hair as “umkempt.” And this year’s competition in Rio has brought back out the same hate.
After giving a strong performance at the Olympic qualifiers—and representing as the third (!) highest scorer of all the gymnasts, some haters could only focus on what her hair looked like. Fortunately, many took to social media to show their support for Gabby including singer Ledisi.
The singer took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the situation.
